Consulting Offerings
Creating to Learn offers an array of consulting services to meet the individual needs of your school district and faculty. Our instructional technology consulting specialists look forward to working closely with you and your staff to build a curriculum enriched with information-, visual-, and technical-literacy skills.
We can work with you and your school district in two ways:
You can choose one of the workshops listed below.
or
We can develop a unique set of experiences for you and your faculty based on one of our instructional technology themes.
Workshops
- Technical Literacy – This workshop is good for both new computer users and experienced computer users who want to learn more about using technology for teaching and learning. We focus on building basic technology skills in an educational setting. Teachers will have the opportunity to use a PC or Macintosh system to create classroom materials and lesson plans enriched with instructional technology.
- Master basic file-management skills.
- Review the programs available in your school district.
- Discuss how these applications could be used in the classroom.
- Learn about a new learning model that helps teachers create computer-based projects focusing on core curricular concepts.
- Tech-Savvy Teachers – This workshop is for teachers who already use technology in the curriculum but want to learn to use technology for more sophisticated research and design.
- Develop information-literacy skills.
- Explore the validity of online information.
- Learn how to organize your research better.
- Discover how to develop good research questions.
- Create meaningful presentations according to design principles.
- Deliver “knock-out” presentations in the classroom.
- Tech-Savvy Leaders – This leadership academy is for administrators, technology directors, and school leaders who want to effect positive change in their schools to prepare students for the new millennium.
- Examine teaching models and best practices for teaching and learning.
- Critique your school’s technology plan and benchmarks.
- Learn how International Standards of Technology in Education (ISTE) can clarify your state’s content standards.
- Using the Creating to Learn Framework – This academy is for teachers, administrators, technology coordinators, and library media specialists who want to work on creating synergy between the required curriculum content and multimedia projects. We facilitate discussions between key members of your faculty to redesign the curriculum in an effort to focus more on the core concepts and big ideas embedded in state standards.
- Explore the framework of the Creating to Learn process.
- Redesign lesson plans and units based on Creating to Learn principles.
- Facilitate teamwork between key resource members in your district.
- Learn the CIDE Process
Workshop Options
- Half-Day Workshop – This option works well for schools with a number of teachers that want a brief overview of several instructional technology ideas to use in the classroom. We usually like to schedule a group of teachers in the morning and a group of teachers in the afternoon, limiting the groups to 10 participants each, to ensure that all participants receive the maximum benefit.
- 3-Day Workshop – Teachers work together to develop research-based activities and projects for their students. We will provide sample worksheets and classroom activities, as well as give participants the opportunity to create their own.
- Yearly Series – Workshops are scheduled throughout the year to meet the needs of the school district. The series provides teachers plenty of time to plan, collaborate, create, and, most importantly, reflect on their work and teaching.
Themes
In addition to the workshops described above, Keane Ideas can develop a set of unique workshop experiences for you and your school district. We’ve found that workshops are most successful when they are built around a particular theme. Here are some themes for you to consider:
- Creating to Learn and the new CIDE process
- Researching on the visible and invisible Web
- Creating authentic research projects
- Designing multimedia projects
- Presenting hit presentations
